Abstract
Sawdust of the timber from saw mill is one of the lignocellulosic materials which can be utilized for the preparation of the particle board. In this study, the saw dust of Teak (Tectona grandis), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Baheda (Terminalia belerica), Mango (Mangifera indica) and Babul (Acacia nilotica) were used for the preparation of particle boards with resin content of 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14%. Subsequently, they were tested for different physical properties according to Indian Standard IS: 3087. The results show that Mango and Teak sawdust can be utilized for producing medium density particle boards. Satisfactory boards were prepared from Mango (Mangifera indica) and Teak (Tectona grandis) sawdust using 12% phenol formaldehyde resin met the requirement in respect of physical properties as specified in IS: 3087 (1985).
